The History of Telco Plus Credit Union |
June 26, 2010 marked the 59th anniversary of Telco Plus Credit Union. In 1951 the credit union began operations in a Longview home as East Texas Telco Credit Union, and soon moved to the Southwest Reserve Building in downtown Longview. From the downtown location, the credit union moved to 501 N. Green Street, and in the 1970s, built a new building at the present site, 423 Gilmer Rd.
423 Gilmer Rd., Longview There have been several mergers in the credit union's history, including a 1988 merger with East Industrial Credit Union of Longview. Following a merger with the Tyler newspaper's CTT Credit Union, the Tyler branch was opened in 1995. On March 24, 1997, the name was changed to Telco Plus Credit Union to reflect the broader field of membership. The expansion of the main office was celebrated with a grand opening in October 1997. Another landmark event in the history of Telco Plus occurred in January 2000, when the credit union acquired a Gregg County Community Charter. The charter acquisition allows anyone who lives or works in Gregg County to become a member. The credit union later applied for and received a Smith County community charter.
