On Presidents Day, October 2011, Telco
Plus Credit Union hosted a Reality Fair
for the 7th and 8th grade students of
Pine Tree Junior High. Prior to
attending the Reality Fair, the students
underwent 3 days of financial training
and literacy where they learned basic
check balancing skills and how to write
a check, identity theft and fraud, and
how and why to save money. The students
also chose their careers and their
annual starting salary was figured for
them. Once they arrived at the Reality
Fair, the students took their career,
their annual salary, and then had to
visit each booth to make financial
decisions about their housing,
utilities, and auto purchases, to name a
few. All in all, the students found this
to be an eye-opening learning experience
and put their financial outlook in
perspective.
